libraries

During the collecting data of my research especially textual documents such as books, journals and Malay old magazines, I mostly have used, main library of UM, fortunately basic documents such as books, relative thesis, journals and video collection of traditional Malay performance are collected there. In advance for detail documents there is a branch of UM main library which is called “Za,Ba” is used.This branch library located in main campus close to management and accounting study faculty. Most reference books specially of Prof Ghulam Sarwar Yousof, Amin Sweeny, Beth Osnes, and cultural study journals can be found there.

Approximately, every working day and sometimes on Holidays I have been is main library and Za,Ba since the comfortable area and easy access to library store, moreover the coffeehouse for refreshing.

Going to Kelantan province

Since Kelantan is the main area in traditional Malay theater especially in wayang kulit Kelantan, I had 5 times journey to Kota Baru ( Central city of Kelanatn province) In the first Journey on 16 September 2014 In company of my supervisor Prof Ghulam Sarwar Yousof and my academic friend Mr “Khor Kia Kheng” who was a PhD student under supervision of Prof Ghulam, which research area in wayang kulit Kelantan.

Interviewing three famous  dalangs (wayang kulit puppeteer)  (Pak Nikmat in Kampung Kemsin, Pak Rahim in Kampung Mesira and Hussien (original Chinese) in Sri Campuran Pasir Parit) and watching a wayang Merdeka performance directed by Pak Muhammad Nizam. During the first trip, I captured photographs of Pak Dogol and Wak Long in Pak Nikmat’s puppet collection. The following day, the collection of Pak Rahim was observed and Pak Rahim was interviewed about Pak Dogol and Wak Long.

It is noticeable that Pak Rahim is the son of Pak Hamzah who is named in most researches by Prof Ghulam, Amin Sweeny and older ones.

Second trip

In the first journey, three Dalangs were interviewed and basic information about wayang kulit, especially Pak Dogol and Wak Long were noted. in second and last day of trip, Pak Rahim awarded us for next week wayang kulit performance at his personal Panguung. So I lonley came back to Kota Baru at 23 September by bus in 9 hours. In the morning arrived at Kota Bahru and take a rest with breakfast in Crystal Lodge hotel were was reserved from last trip. after that I visited some cultural place and museum there till afternoon.

In the afternoon Pak Rahim had a favor and picked me up to his house for wayang kulit performance, it was fantastic show and I recorded whole performance and interviewed by audiences.
